Most professional companies have a minimum charge that makes it affordable to get a quick, targeted scan done to ensure even the smallest task is completed safely. The time required really depends on the project. Scanning a few specific locations for core drills on a clear, open slab might only take an hour or two. However, scanning an entire 10,000-square-foot floor, especially one that is congested with rebar and utilities, could easily take a full day. The complexity of what’s inside the concrete is a major factor, as the technician needs time to carefully analyze the data to create an accurate map. The single biggest risk of a DIY scan is misinterpreting the results. The equipment produces raw data that requires extensive training to understand, and an amateur can easily miss a critical utility or misidentify a structural element. This can create a false sense of security that is incredibly dangerous.
